Small Grant Scheme competition for research projects for women scientists in technical fields of science

National Centre for Research and Development as the Operator Applied Research" Programme implemented under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 announces the Small Grant Scheme 2020 competition

1. areas of scientific activity covered by the competition:
The competition does not have defined focus areas.
Due to the specificity of the competition, the submitted applications must relate to the following R&D fields, in accordance with the "Frascati Manual":

  • engineering and technical sciences, including:
    • civil engineering
    • electrical engineering, electronics, information engineering
    • mechanical engineering
    • chemical engineering
    • materials engineering
    • medical engineering
    • environmental engineering
    • environmental biotechnology
    • industrial biotechnology
    • nanotechnology
    • other engineering and technical sciences.

2 Types of entities that may apply for funding:

  • Organization conducting research and disseminating knowledge - as defined in Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty and the provisions of Article 37(1) of the Act on the National Centre for Research and Development.
  • Enterprise - as defined in Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty.

3 Project Promoter:

  • Applications are submitted by individual entities operating in Poland.
  • Consortia are not expected to participate in the competition.

4 Project Manager/Principal Investigator

  • Each proposal submitted must provide for one person to serve as the project manager (Principal Investigator).
  • Due to the specifics of the competition, in the Small Grant Scheme 2020 competition the role of the project manager (Principal Investigator) can be performed only by a woman scientist.

5. the amount of funds allocated for the financing of projects

  • An amount of EUR 5,000,000 has been earmarked for the co-financing of projects within the R&D fields specified in point 1 of this announcement.
    Under the competition, only projects of an application nature may be supported.
  • The minimum amount of support in the competition is EUR 50 000, while the maximum is EUR 200 000. The maximum project implementation period is 24 months.
  • The final eligibility date for expenditures is April 30, 2024.

6 Types of research
Fundamental research - as defined in Article 2(84) of Commission Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014, but only up to the level of 10% of the total eligible project costs and only if their execution is necessary to carry out industrial research and experimental development,
Industrial research - as defined in Article 2(85) of Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014,
Development - as defined in Article 2(86) of Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014.

7 Value of funding

  • Level of co-financing - up to 100% of eligible project costs for organisations conducting research and disseminating knowledge. Co-financing for enterprises will be granted in accordance with the rules of public aid, depending on the size of the enterprise and the type of research conducted.

8 Deadline and method of submitting project applications

Applications must be submitted electronically in English through the online system available at: https://lsi.ncbr.gov.pl 

The project promoter may edit and validate the application up to the closing date of the call. Only complete, properly completed applications will be eligible for submission.

The closing date for the competition is December 11, 2020 at 16:00 CET.
